Dr Fivos Spathopoulos studied Geology in the University of Athens, Greece. He then received a M.Sc. in Marine Geology & Geophysics from the University College, London and a Ph.D. in Geology from the same university. He worked as an exploration petroleum geologist for 16 years (mostly in Hess Ltd) and was involved in several source rock evaluation projects in many basins of the world. He is the author of several scientific papers on exploration, source rocks and petroleum systems. Currently, he is an independent consultant working on “Unconventional Petroleum” projects and a Visiting Lecturer in the Petroleum Group at Imperial College, London, where he teaches geology of source rocks, petroleum systems and unconventional petroleum. He is also working on a geochemical database of the world’s petroleum source rocks. He is a member of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain and the Geological Society of London.
